4 guys 4 the future

The New York Mets in 2018 were brutally bad more often than they were splendidly good. So, that is why they prepare for the playoffs as baseball fans and not players.

However, as the roster started to be messed around with in the dogs days down the stretch, whether by accident or not, the Mets struck gold with getting these four players to play together long enough to make fans happy.

In someway shape or from, these are going to be the four guys that make up the top of the Mets’ lineup in 2019.

They even did so admirably towards the end of 2018.

The best part is, all of these players are young, fresh, and have their best days ahead of them. They have not even reached their max potential yet.

Conforto is likely going to be the one that becomes the next face of the team but his supporting casts is great too.

Many teams have a “Core 4” of players. The kind of players that stick around for a while, become friends, and find success together.

The Yankees have theirs with Jeter-Pettitte-Posada-Mariano. So, Mets fans can dream, right?

It’s not accurate to dub the Mets’ Core 4 as quite to the level of the Yankees’ or anyone else’s, but that is the takeaway. The potential for them to do great things for many years.

All of them are still under team control for many seasons and all of them came on strong at the end of 2018 to put up respectable numbers and turn some heads.

The best part is, the Mets still have stout pitching that is not included in this talent poll.

If the end of 2018 carries into 2019, with all four of these players playing the way there were, at a good to great level, the Mets can make some progress into their playoff aspirations.

There is still work to do and more needs to fill, but the 2018 “Core 4” has more potential than to just be a one year wonder.
