The New York Jets had very few positives to talk about following their Sunday loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, 31-12, running their record to 1-3.

Let’s sing a song. Everybody ready? Jingle bells, Bat Man smells, the New York Jets laid an egg…

Sorry for the bad song parody but that is exactly what the Jets did on Sunday afternoon in Jacksonville, dropping their record to 1-3.

12. 30. 31. 52. Final

It started when the ball was placed on the tee for the opening kickoff and it didn’t stop until the final gun was sounded, ending the Jets lousy afternoon.

Time to call a spade a spade. The offensive line just isn’t any good.

Prior to the season we felt that Spencer Long would make a difference in turning things around. We were dead wrong.

Sam Darnold was sacked three times. When he wasn’t being sacked he spent a lot of time running for his life.

We will take a longer look at that when the final grades come out.

The running game was not even close to being existent. The Jets were able to net only 34 yards on the ground.

They only ran it 14 times, mainly because they were playing from behind for the majority of the contest.

Jeremy Bates left Darnold with an empty backfield on multiple occasions, even with that pass rush that the Jaguars boast. That offensive line needs all the help it can get and Bates didn’t give it to them. That is a large mistake in the game plan.

You can summarize a lot of this game with the following tweet from Connor Hughes of the Athletic:

That’s the way the cookie crumbled ladies and gentlemen. Let’s talk about the defense for a second.

The Jacksonville Jaguars posted 503 yards on this team. Yes, they are improved, but, 503 yards? Blake Bortles scrambled around like Cam Newton on a good day. This offense isn’t THAT good.

I guess for good news, they held Keelan Cole to 15 yards? Oh yes, Dede Westbrook did put up a career-high 130 yards and Donte Moncrief added 109. The three turnovers the defense was able to force seem very hollow.

The only real “victory” to take away was that the score wasn’t 28-0 at the end of the half. The defense stiffened just enough to hold the Jaguars to only one touchdown and three field goals. It would have been a complete embarrassment if not for that.

Jamal Adams stepped up, showing all over the field with 12 total tackles. Then again, it’s never a good day when a defensive back leads the team in that department.

Leonard Williams notched his first sack of the season. Congrats, I guess?

Let’s summarize it in our terms. The offense wasn’t sharp and the defense couldn’t stop a nosebleed. Other than that it went well.

It doesn’t get any easier next week as the Jets return home to face the Denver Broncos. I don’t like our offensive line’s chances against Von Miller. Oh boy.
