It is time to celebrate New York Mets long time face of the franchise, David   Wright. Enjoy this week, Mets fans, he has earned it.

The New York Mets are sitting with a record of 73-83. The injury bug has once again torpedoed another Mets season and they are playing out the string, waiting until next year.

However, for the next five days at Citi Field, it is going to be quite different. There will be a buzz at the park that hasn’t been there for a while. Well, other than on Jacob deGrom nights of course.

For five nights, nobody is going to care about the record.

Why? For anyone that forgot, the prodigal son returns. David Wright returns as an active player tonight and will be on the bench until the 29th when he will make his final start.

The 29th will likely not be the only time we see David, at least the plate.

Manager Mickey Callaway has stated that he will try to get him up as a pinch hitter in the Braves series.

It will be an emotional week. It will be emotional for Wright. It will be emotional for the team, and it will be emotional for the fans.

Fans, we should absolutely take the time to celebrate the career of David Wright during these next five days.

Why? Because he has always done right (no pun intended) by us and the team, both on and off the field.

He was selected to the All-Star team seven times. Wright hit over .300 seven times. He it 20+ home runs six times.

Wheeler must be shut down. dark. Next

It’s not just the numbers either. Think of all the big hits. Think about all the clutch home runs, the game-winning hits and everything else he did at the plate. Remember Wright’s glove. He could flash that leather too!

And Wright never made a fool of himself or the team off the field either. He created his foundation. His appearances were countless and wonderful. David Wright was the New York Mets. His face represented, through the years, everything good about baseball and the franchise.

Now, he gets to go out with one last hurrah. David Wright gets to say goodbye to New York on his own terms rather than being sent away. He’ll walk out of New York as classy as he showed up.

Mets fans get to celebrate it this week, and they should. Celebrate him. Give Wright as much love as you can. He deserves it. He’s our guy. Say goodbye the way we know how.
