Mark brings a Cup on his last ride.

Mark Messier is one of the greatest hockey players to ever live, but in what is more important to this list, at the end of his career he brought the Rangers a Stanley Cup.

This one is similar to Patrick Ewing. He did not technically end his career on the Rangers, or after winning the Cup, but, this is for sure his last hurrah.

If he didn’t lead the Rangers to the Cup in 1994, he was not going to at all. He had already had a long career in hockey and already won a lot of Cups with the Edmonton Oilers.

At the end of his career, he had the chance to win one more without Wayne Gretzky and with the Rangers.

He did just that. In the last window of his career, he won the ultimate prize. He ended up hanging around just a tad too long and had some other seasons elsewhere where he didn’t accomplish much.

Messier needed to prove that he could bring the Rangers a Cup. Still something that no one else has done to this day. The next one to do it like Messier would be like Henrik Lundqvist. It was bringing New York a championship late in an illustrious career.

But the Cup winning should have ended his career. It was his last true hurrah. Messier got the legends send off he deserved. Doing something that he always did, win.

No send off is better for a legend in this City quite like bringing it a World Championship.
