The Butt Fumble

You knew what I meant when I said THAT fumble.

It was Thanksgiving of 2012. The Jets had the night game. Personally, I drove home rather quickly so I wouldn’t miss the game from my house.

I have forever since regretted that act.

The opponent was the archrival Patriots, and it didn’t start out bad. It was a scoreless first quarter.

It wasn’t a scoreless second quarter. Tom Brady and company outscored the Jets 35-3 in the second quarter. The final on the night was 49-19. It could have been 149-19.

The game, and the embarrassment therein, was punctuated by the fumble.

9:10 was remaining in the first half, and the Jets had the ball, first and ten from their own 31. Sanchez took the snap and was running off the right side. Vince Wilfork shoved Brandon Moore into the backfield.

The rest is history. Sanchez slid into Moore‘s rear end and fumbled, the ball was picked up and returned for a touchdown by Steve Gregory.

Not a lot needs to be set about this. We had the score, the opponent, all tied together in a neat little bow by the “Butt Fumble”.

No more talking about that game. Let’s bury that football.
