New York Giants: Game vs Texans will be won or lost on defense
The New York Giants take a rare trip down to Houston on Sunday to play the Texans. However, the oldest trick in the book applies, the defenses will decide this one.
The New York Giants are set to play the Texans on Sunday afternoon. Without being harsh, it is safe to say that the Giants offense is not spectacular enough to win them anything anytime soon.
So, if the Giants want to beat the Texans and avoid going an abysmal 0-3, they need their defense to hold up against the Texans.
Luckily for the Giants, having even remotely competent offensive play from the offense and elite defense has gotten them to the playoffs recently.

Unluckily for the Giants, their offense has been horrible enough more recently where they now see themselves sitting with just three wins in over a calendar year.
However, Week 3 of the NFL season is another fresh start. The path to the playoffs, or even being taken seriously, rarely start at 0-2. It never starts at 0-3.
The Giants are in a must-win situation going into playing the Texans. Every game in the NFL is must win to an extent but nothing will end the season abruptly quite like being 0-3 with the worst part of the schedule yet to come.
So, that brings us to the Giants’ opponent on this fateful Sunday, the Houston Texans. The Texans are also struggling with demons of their own but have a player you have heard of in J.J. Watt.
The Texans’ offense, historically, has never once been good since their inception in 2002. Their offense can however, keep them in games and be good enough to have the defense carry them to success.
Deshaun Watson might finally be the QB of the future and Deandre Hopkins is another star player you have likely heard of.
However, the Texans also ride or die by the performance of their defense. The Giants need that.
If the Giants’ defense can make plays, create turnovers, and give the abysmal offense enough chances they will this game.
Defense wins championships is basic football. However, the Giants need to resort to basic football at this point. Complicated football and trying to be creative offense has not gotten them very fat this year.
The Giants have the weapons on offense that even a big play from Odell Beckham Jr or Saquon Barkley can give them life, even if it few and far between.
But, based on what the Giants have shown us all year, they cannot rely on the offense that they have been putting out on the filed in 2018.
So, what will really win games for the Giants is having the defense the allow that to pay off. The kind of defense that has been giving up some points, but is showing potential.
That potential can win them this game.
The Texans are also a team that has shown they need the big play. By stopping that, the Giants can gain the edge and give Eli Manning a chance. That is all Eli has ever shown he has needed.
So, no matter how bad things look for the Giants right now, there is still one thing that will never fail to work for them. That is let their defense keep them in games and let the magic happen on offense.
The Giants are due for a win and as good as Watt, Jadeveon Clowney, and crew are at rushing the passer, the Giants can be more consistent and balanced on defense.
The narrative will never change, Defense wins championships, but for the Giants, let’s start smaller and say it could win them a game. Finally.
