The New York Knicks should not be trading pieces away and ruin the bigger picture to get Jimmy Butler. Recent team history shows us this.

The New York Knicks are on of the teams linked to Jimmy Butler in a potential trade. However, by no means necessary, they should not blow it up to get him, or really anybody.

First let me start by saying I think that Jimmy Butler is an amazing athlete and a very talented basketball player, and yes he could help the Knicks in the same way he could help any team with his defense and slashing ability.

With all that said, the Knicks should steer clear of that dumpster fire of an idea to trade for him.

The Knicks are doing something right for once, they are taking their time and building the team the right way with a young core.

Trading for Jimmy Butler would only be Melo 2.0 and not the good kind of 2.0 that brings positive upgrades the bad kind like when AOL was still tying up your phone line.

I still cringe thinking about all the young players and assets they gave up for Carmelo Anthony and crew.

So, trading for Jimmy Butler will surely mean giving up draft picks and young players to make this work, it’s public knowledge he wants to be traded.

However. does that mean he’s going to be happier in New York? Or does it pan out that the Knicks send a group of young players to the Timberwolves and then find out the Jimmy Butler only wanted to vacation in New York and Live in L.A?

The Knicks shouldn’t be willing to part with anything that can help them in the future or present.

This means by no means should they be thinking about giving up valuable young players who can begin to learn under who I perceive to be one of the better young coaches in the entire association, David Fizdale.

This would only further hinder the growth of the Knicks that could begin to look so bright.

Also, the Knicks are trying to get into better habits, go after players that want to be in New York.

If Scott Perry and Steve Mills can create an organization in which everyone wants to fight for a championship and take pride in how much the Knicks fans want to see this team win, then amazing things can happen.

The Knicks have brought in enough mercenaries over the years that only care about collecting a paycheck and have shown no desire to win.

I get that money is a huge part of a lot of player’s motivation, but it can’t be the only thing that makes you want to train harder than your counter parts.

Enes Kanter might not be the best center in league, but he’s the first player in a long time that truly loves being a Knick and wants no part of leaving.

Dare I say he may even take less money if the Knicks can bring in other free agents to help solidify their place amongst the best?

Lastly, don’t be blinded by the past.

Haven’t we seen enough of players that really don’t live up to their billing? The Eddy Curry’s, and Joakim Noah’s of the league.

Knicks fans and front office administration, I ask you look at an organization like the Cleveland Browns.

Years and years of misery, but they never once threw off their plan, and are now showing something real.

If their fans can endure what they have for the past decade plus, we will be okay to just trust that what the Knicks organization is doing will work.

Trust the drafting process and hope the Knicks keep mining away for those hidden gems and castaways that other teams don’t want because they couldn’t live up to their draft status.

Scott Perry, you stay classy and keep doing your press conferences telling us you’re not going back to the old Knick ways.

Next. Which Knicks players are poised to breakout this year?. dark

I’ll believe you, and so will other Knicks fans, because let’s face it, you can’t do much worse than Phil Jackson did so you’re already winning by association.
