New York Giants: Former Jets player Damien Woody is right, Eli Manning is “toast”
By Alex Jordan
Former New York Jet Damien Woody thinks that Eli Manning is toast and the reason for the New York Giants struggles. It may be hard to admit, but he’s right.
The New York Giants are 0-2 and it is already easy to blame quarterback Eli Manning for the horrible start. Meanwhile, the focus is mainly on blaming the offensive line for the Giants’ problems.
This year is the fourth time in the last five years that the Giants have started 0-2. Since the NFL went to four divisions in each conference in 2002, only 11 percent of teams that started 0-2 made the playoffs, according to Mike Rosenstein of NJ.com.
While the 2007 Giants started 0-2 and won the Super Bowl, there would need to be some improvements for the 2018 Giants to have a shot at making the playoffs.

So ,what’s the problem with Big Blue?
Former New York Jet and current ESPN analyst Damien Woody thinks that the Giants problem is Eli.
Here’s what Woody said about Eli on Wednesday’s episode of ESPN’s Get Up when asked to complete the sentence “Ei Manning is…”, per Zach Braziller of the New York Post:
"“Toast. He is toast, OK?. Listen, everyone has talked about the offensive line. I mean, I live in the New York tri-state area. You hear it all the time: ‘The Giants offensive line is trash.’ Which they are. They’re bad. They’re bad. There’s no question about that.”"
Woody added:
"“There’s been one constant, and that’s the quarterback, OK? Eli Manning. I understand he won two Super Bowls. I get it, OK? But nobody cares about that. We’re not talking about legacy here. What was that, back in like 2011? Dude, that’s like eons ago, OK? We’re talking about right here, right now.”"
As much as I hate to say this, Woody is right about Eli.
It’s now time for the Giants to replace Manning. Manning played good, not great last year and the struggles from last year have carried over to this year. Manning is still good, but he can’t play at a high-level anymore and is slowly losing it.
This season, Manning has completed 69.1 percent of his passes for 503 yards and one touchdown. That’s not bad, but not great either. I don’t think that Manning is the reason for the Giants struggles, but he is part of the reason.
In addition to calling Manning toast, Woody also called the Giants offensive line trash. While Eli won’t blame the offensive line for their struggles, the offensive line is part of the reason for Big Blue’s struggles.
The Giants offense ranks 28th in yards per game, 29th in yards per play, 24th in passing yards per game, 28th in rushing yards per game, and is tied for 29th in points per game.
Now, all Eli and the Giants need to do is go out and prove that they are not toast or trash.
