The New York Knicks are opening the door on potentially acquiring Jimmy Butler in the near future. However, their best bet is to stay far away from him.

The New York Knicks acquiring Jimmy Butler seems like a real possibility. There is no doubt the Knicks have the market, pieces, or money next year to make it happen.

But, as the Jimmy Butler drama Timberwolves drama still has no end in sight, the Knicks should just avoid Butler altogether.

The New York Knicks are going to be better this year. It does not matter how much better they will be, but just better in general. It is hard to not improve on 29 wins.

More from Empire Writes Back

The Knicks finally got rid of Joakim Noah and many of the bad faces that were symbolic to the old regime.

The point guard trio of Trey Burke, Emmanuel Mudiay, and Frank Ntilikina are going into the year with more time under their belts.

Kristaps Porzingis is going to be coming back and the Knicks already have a plan for that.

Also, cannot fail to mention that it has recently come out that the Knicks are interested in bringing in Kyrie Irving.

As if things didn’t already sound better, Kevin Knox and Mitchell Robinson might already show breakout potential in their rookie seasons.

So, what is the one thing that might ruin all of that? One way to guarantee the culture becomes sloppy again?

That would be if the Knicks got Jimmy Butler.

Butler and the Timberwolves have a rocky relationship. They seem way more invested in him than he does them. That was also the case when it became apparent he was not going to be in Chicago for the long-term.

Now, his current team had to change the location of their original meeting. Whatever Butler is doing right now, but not be malicious. It might even be because he is working to get in shape for the season.

But with Butler, this is now becoming a fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me thing. He is way too talented to be in trade talks again. Everything he does is becoming newsworthy.

That brings me to one of my main points here.

Jimmy Butler currently plays in the Minnesota basketball market. They are some loyal fans but pale in comparison to the market that is literally New York City.

If everything Jimmy Butler is doing up there is causing drama and being put in the limelight, imagine how badly he would be scrutinized in New York with the New York media and fans.

He would almost have to live under a rock to not jeopardize the hype that would surround his arrival.

That brings me to my next point, he is not worth any price.

The Knicks just had their GM, Scott Perry, say they are done giving up first round picks or “assets” for trades. So, that rules out the boatload of talent and picks they would have to give to the Wolves to get Butler anytime before next offseason.

Also, the Knicks’ current players might work out for them. They are going to resign Kristaps Porzingis and still will have money to get another free agent like Kyrie.

Jimmy Butler being brought in might help in the short-term for the Knicks. But, they might not even need him to end their playoff drought. They surely wouldn’t be able to keep their young core around if he was here.

Butler brings drama and confusion everywhere he goes. He is seems unhappy to playing games with the Wolves.

You cannot blame the guy for wanting to play elsewhere and eventually choosing to go wherever that may be.

But, that kind of attitude does not last very long in New York and it sure as heck will not last long with the Knicks who need a lot of patience right now.

Sometimes in life, things just are not worth doing. Things are not worth having or getting. Jimmy Butler is one of those of things for the Knicks.

He is a great player. He can accomplish great things. But, the Knicks have some players who can be pretty good too.

The Knicks’ best option right now is to not pursue Jimmy Butler in any way shape or form. They need to let him go. There is enough going on and he is not worth the headache.

Rather, the Knicks’ focus should be on building around Kristaps and player who would want to be here and do not have a history of being dramatic.

Next. Going after Kyrie Irving is the Knicks' best bet. dark

Jimmy Butler is not part of the process. No matter how talented he might be. “Future assets” are more talented.
