New York Giants: Ereck Flowers is the biggest draft bust in Giants history
You’ve heard it for years now, New York Giants tackle Ereck Flowers is the worst offensive lineman in the National Football League. But, he also might be the biggest draft bust in New York Giants history.
The New York Giants struck out when they drafted an offensive tackle by the name of Ereck Flowers with the ninth overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.
The Giants were coming off a 2014 season when they finished the year with a 6-10 record.
That 6-10 record was thanks in a large part to the offensive line. Thanks to the offensive line, Eli Manning threw 14 interceptions and was sacked a total of 28 times. 28 times in 16 games. In 2013, he was sacked 39 times with 27 interceptions.

So, in two years Eli Manning threw 41 interceptions to go along with 67 sacks. Now to be fair, you can’t put all of these at the fault of the offensive line, but they are a very large part of why he has such bad numbers in those two season.
With this being said, the Giants needed to do something about their line, which is where the 2015 draft came into play.
With the ninth overall pick in hand thanks to their less than stellar 6-10 record, the Giants were finally going to fix their offensive line problem.
The guy the Giants had their sights set on was a man by the name of Brandon Scherff, an offensive tackle out of the University of Iowa.
Unfortunately, Scherff was taken with the fifth overall pick by the Washington Redskins.
With this, the Giants were left with a tough decision. Their offensive line was horrible, but so was their rush game.
With players such as Ereck Flowers, Todd Gurley, Andrus Peat and Melvin Gordon still on the board, the Giants were forced to select one of those players.
Did they want to help out the line or did they want to bolster their running game?
Unfortunately for us Giants fans, Big Blue picked incorrectly. The Giants took Flowers, an offensive tackle out of the University of Miami.
The man who was taken right after Flowers, Todd Gurley, would turn out to be arguably the best running back in the NFL as he finished second in MVP voting in 2017.
Flowers on the other hand, has been criticized his entire career and in the offseason between 2017 and 2018 he was moved from right tackle to left tackle in hopes that his production value would go up.
This was not the case.
In Week One of against the Jaguars, Flowers failed to meet expectation once again. In fact, Flowers could partially be blamed for the teams 0-2 start this season.
Flowers has been horrible since the first game of his career, yet the Giants continue to keep him around.
The drafting of Ereck Flowers might go down as the worst draft decision the New York Giants have ever made. In the coming months, the Giants need to make a decision, to keep or move on from Ereck Flowers.
Regardless, it probably will not save him from being perhaps the worst draft bust in the New York Giants’ long history.
