Brooklyn Nets: Three realistic goals for D’Angelo Russell this season
Pay Day
This is a list of goals that Russell can achieve this year on a personal. So technically this is something Russell can do.
However, this is the only this on this list that involves the Nets as well. Russell is a former second overall pick.
Nothing is guaranteed in this league, but it basically means he is supposed to have a long career and make a lot of money during it.
If Russell wants to set himself up for the future, this is the year to do it. If Russell wants to be a Net for a while, which he has claimed he has, then this is the year to get over the hump.
Earning a contract is more complicated than it seems right now. The Nets are looking to be big spenders after the season and into next season. The Nets are also aways looking to make trades that will help the rebuild.
So, in order to earn a contract Russell obviously needs to make himself look indispensable. He needs to play often, better, and be valuable.
The contract will come with all of that. He can theoretically sign anywhere but his best value is to stay here in Brooklyn for they are one of the only teams that can make him the face of the franchise.
Russell also needs to take on a bigger role with the team. He needs to take on a big leadership role. He has been in the league long enough now. But, he can also start representing the franchise.
If Russell can play a lot of games, get better on the court, show he is a leader, and a guy to build around, he will get a contract extension.
If he does all those things, he will have earned it.
So, that is a something he can do this year. Earning a contract extension is a realistic goal for D’Angelo Russell in 2018-2019.
