More than 5.2 assists per game

This goal seems pretty simple. However, with more time on the court this can also be more difficult. The biggest thing with Russell right now is that he needs to stay healthy, first and foremost.

However, last season, when he was playing consistently, his shooting is what turned some heads. He led the team in scoring with 15.5 points per in his 48 games.

But, it still is not where it needs to be. He shot less than 50% overall and even worse from the 3PT range.

This day in age the NBA is all about scoring, but that will not be Russell’s problem as much. Once he gets into a groove, he will put up better shooting numbers.

If he gets more assists, he can still be a solid scorer too, with enough time he can succeed at both.

But, where Russell can dazzle and light it up, is by being a better facilitator. Where the Nets other PG, Spencer Dinwiddie, shined brightly last year is by leading the team in assists per game and playing in 80 games.

We already said Russell will likely play in more games this season and be the starter. So, he needs to up his assists numbers. He can still score but can become way more of a threat if he can be equally important in his passes.

If he can be the game manager and facilitate offense that way, he will be in poised for a breakout campaign.

If D’Angelo can have around eight to ten assists per game this year, while still shooting better, he will emerge as the PG of the future.

If it all comes together, and Russell ups his assists to show he can get it done that way, he will be poised to help the Nets get better.

A few more successful passes per game to up it from 5.2 is not a tall order for Russell this season. Eight per game will probably good enough to get him top 10 in the league in that category.
