We have all heard the rumors of Kyrie Irving wanting to play for New York Knicks, but now it seems as if the move is more likely than ever.

Multiple reports have come out over the past few days surrounding Kyrie Irving and the New York Knicks. It was revealed that Kyrie Irving will be the New York Knicks number one target when the 2019 NBA off-season comes around.

This is great and all, but what does it mean?

Kyrie Irving is one of the best, if not the best, point guard in the league, and when he hits the market, he will be at the top of a lot of teams’ big boards.

However, the news that he will be the top priority for the Knicks is big time.

Ever since the news came out that Kyrie Irving wanted out of Cleveland, there has been speculation that he would one day wind up in a Knicks uniform.

For starters, four teams were named as potential teams Kyrie wanted to play for. Those teams were the Knicks, Spurs, Timberwolves and Heat. He of course ended up playing for the Celtics in Boston. But the fact that he even named New York as a destination is significant.

Irving attended high school in New Jersey which means he would feel right at home if he were to play for the Knicks. Not only that, but this means the Knicks could finally start to play competitive basketball.

The addition of Kyrie Irving to the lights of a healthy Kristaps Porzingis, an up and coming player in Kevin Knox, and potentially Enes Kanter is a dangerous lineup.

In addition to Irving, there have been many rumors saying he and Jimmy Butler wanted to team up on an Eastern Conference team.

With that, if the Knicks get Kyrie it is that much more likely they reel in Jimmy Butler. Adding both Kyrie Irving and Jimmy Butler would instantly catapult the Knicks to a top three seed in the East.

But, what does this mean for the Knicks current lineup?

What about Trey Burke who was fantastic for the Knicks towards the end of the 2017-18?

If they get Irving do they even bother signing Burke back?

Whatever it may be, the 2019 offseason has the potential to be huge for the New York Knicks. Adding Kyrie Irving to any lineup would strengthen that team, and adding him to a lineup that already has Kristaps Porzingis might be the move that puts the Knicks over the hump.
