David  Wright of the New York Mets has announced that he will be activated for the final homestand and retire after the season.

It’s a bittersweet day for New York Mets fans and for their captain.

The team held a press conference earlier this afternoon regarding the future of everyone’s favorite, David Wright. The news is not what all Mets fans wanted to hear.

Wright will be activated for the Mets final homestand of the 2018 season on September 25. He will start the game on Saturday, September 29.

The future, however, isn’t as exciting.

David didn’t actually use the word “retirement” but he did everything else.

When asked, Wright said that the doctors have advised that there won’t be any real improvement to his health.

Therefore he doesn’t see playing past this season a possibility.

David Wright has been a face of the franchise since he came up to the team back in 2004. He was named captain in 2013 and has been one to perfection.

He formed his own charity, has been a model citizen both on and off the field.

Wright’s on the field heroics are too many to mention in this quick article, but we were all there for all of them.

dark. Next. Can Rosario remain consistent?

OK fans, how great will it be to see him play one more time? Could you imagine if he were to give us some heroics just one more time before hanging up his cleats?

All kidding aside, having David retake his position at third base will be a culmination of his hard work to get back to the big league level. He has been through a lot.

Cheer him one more time, ladies and gentlemen. David Wright has earned it. We may not see this special of a person around the Mets for a long time.
