Task #2 Be all-in on Peter Alonso

Right now, the biggest things that are striking fans the wrong way in regards to personnel is David Wright being there and not playing and Peter Alonso not being there at all.

David Wright’s future is clearer than it has been, but still unclear. However, for the latter of this, the next Mets GM can fix that wrong by giving Peter Alonso the green light for 2019.

Peter Alonso can easily work his way into the Mets 2019 Opening Day lineup. There is not doubt he might have the talent to do so.

As for the Mets, they need to give him those opportunities and be open-minded about him being the first baseman.

Right now, the biggest concern with Alonso is the fact that his defense is not that good and his average is not that high.

However, the Mets have become a team that lives or dies by the home run. That is actually a lot of baseball right now.

So, if the Mets figure they need to find hitters that hit for average, they can still go out and do that. Alonso should not be punished for that.

The Mets might have too many third baseman going into 2019, but they no longer can afford to build on needs, they need to build around talent.

The Mets potentially have a guy who with one swing of the bat can change the game. He brings a new breath of fresh air to the first base position and can really help the Mets’ offense.

Whoever the next Mets GM is should make it one his first task to set up Alonso to get a lot of time at first early on next year. They will have the talent at their disposal and should use it, for now.
