The New York Mets are admirably putting up a fight as the 2018 season comes to its inevitable September close. However, with the next general manager set to begin in the offseason, it is never to soon to see where he should start.

The New York Mets are trying to carry an above .500 record since the All-Star break into September. They are playing well and will end the season not looking pathetic.

One thing that is pathetic though, is the current mess they have with their three-headed GM thing they have going on.

Sandy Alderson was the Mets’ guy for a while, but health reasons and performance reasons leaves the Mets looking for a new GM.

Hopefully, the Mets announce their next general manager right as this season wraps up in about three weeks.

Considering the pulling power of a GM, let’s hope the next GM is there for the long haul. However, whoever it is does have to go very far to see where to start.

For the obvious things the Mets have that need to stay, there are obvious things that also need to go.

For the players like Jacob deGrom that will stay, there are players like Dominic Smith who are expendable.

There are a million moves the next GM could make. They need to not over think it.

Now, because its the Mets, it is likely the next GM will make the millionth and first move on everyone mind to begin his tenure.

But, enough of the negativity. The next Mets GM could in an instance turn this team around with the right moves.

Here are three tasks the next Mets GM should fulfill right away as the Mets turn the page on the Sandy Alderson era.
