New York Mets: “Jacob deGrom day” has become the hottest thing in Queens

Jacob deGrom is on the New York Mets and it is still hard to believe he is theirs. However, deGrom’s starts have become the hottest thing in Queens and that might hold true for a while.

The New York Mets and Jacob deGrom need to be mentioned in the same sentence from here on out. He deserves to be the entire team nonetheless the talk of the team.

Yes, the Mets are playing much better lately. I’ll even go as far as saying what they are doing now opens a door on long-term promise. However, nothing will have us all keep watching quite like a night where Jacob deGrom is starting.

The US Open is over, so the Mets are back to being the only show in Queens now. Also, with football now underway, it is quite easy to move on from the Mets for the rest of 2018.

There is little reason to have Mets games be nothing more than background noise from here on out. Focusing more on school/work, or football, or NBA/NHL training Camp right now does not make you any less of a fan. It just means you are smart with your time.

However, there is an exception to everything. Jacob deGrom is that exception. There is a reason why Mickey Callaway moved his start back a few days despite the game itself actually meaning nothing.

It is because “Jacob deGrom day,” as we will call it, is the only thing for this team this year. Watching him wheel and deal on the mound is the only reason to watch the last three weeks.

Remember “Harvey Day?” I will not go quite as far to say his starts are exciting as that because we are in September but much like old Matt Harvey, deGrom is the only draw to this team right now.

The Mets are fine. We all watch them and support them no matter what. However, the lineup for next year is already pretty much set, David Wright is still not back, there is no team to spoil left on their roster.

The only reason to watch the Mets the rest of this year is just for the love of the team. However, what deGrom is historical and special.

He will never have another year this magnificent. He will never garner as much attention as he is now especially if the whole team is actually in the race again.

Jacob deGrom day is special. I would put his starts as the type of event to match a regular season football game right now. It is a huge event.

He starts Tuesday night barring rain. I wouldn’t miss it for anything. Enjoy each and everyone. He is the best pitcher in the NL and in the prime of his career.

deGrom starts are the hottest thing in Queens right now. Maybe all of New York sports. Maybe even all of baseball. Aside from them really being the only thing the Mets have right now, it is still the best.

Only a David Wright call-up would draw me to a TV to prioritize the Mets right now over something else. But, this is hardly about David Wright.

So, thank you Jacob deGrom. Historically good pitching that is fun to watch and almost unbelievable to see never goes out of style and is good all year around.
