The New York Rangers find themselves in an unfamiliar position coming into the rebuilding 2018-2019 season. However, like he has been, Henrik Lundqvist remains the one constant in the midst of a lot of change.

The New York Rangers are, obviously, in a rebuild. It is not some groundbreaking secret. However, it has been so long since the Rangers have done this.

Therefore, parts of it should be fun for the fans. They get to see young talent come up through the ranks and prove why they belong in the iconic blue sweater.

But, the real reason why the rebuild has the potential to be fun in the beginning is that they have a constant in their net. Henrik Lundqvist is the top player again and will prove why he is such a legend.

More from Empire Writes Back

Sure, the man we call “Hank” is an aging rapidly at a grueling position. But, he will still be a huge, if the biggest, piece to the Rangers team this season. He can once again prove why he is a legend.

Going into his 14th year with the team, he still remains the top player.

The Rangers roster will be filled with players trying to prove they are worthy of being part of this team even as they go beyond their rebuild. The young gritty style of hockey will be refreshing to watch.

But, at the end of the day, it is once again Hank who will be the reason they win or lose more games. There will be a lot of games where the Rangers are overpowered and outmatched.

That is expected. However, if Hank is on it and can play at the elite level we know he capable of playing at, he will be the difference between a few extra wins or losses for the Rangers.

If Hanks plays well, the Rangers could give up 40+ shots on goal and still win. If he does not play well, they will give up more goals and lose.

There is a big reason why Hank survived the purge last season and survived all the way through this offseason. Sure, it could be a mixture of respect and lack of better options. But, there is only one real reason: he is still the most important player on the team.

Even going into his 15th season with the team and in the 36th year of his life, he remains the guy.

Many years off his prime and run all the way to the Cup Final, he is now one of the oldest players in the game. Yet, he still remains a top reason for what the Rangers’ record will loo like at the end of the year.

There is a reason Hank is so loved and well-respected. Regardless of how he does this season, whether it be his last or not, he will be a legend and legend is forever.

But, with another elite season and thriving in his leadership role, his legend can grow even larger, something that many didn’t even think was possible.
