Reports are indicating that the New York Mets may go internal for their next general manager by promoting old friend Omar Minaya.

It’s been a long year for the New York Mets. With it comes a changing of the guard at the general manager position as we are all aware.

Unfortunately the health of Sandy Alderson has caused him to step down from his position and be replaced by the three-man team that nobody is in favor of.

The plan is to hire one after the season and it could be one of the internal three or someone from the outside.

John Ricco has done the talking for the group since Alderson stepped down. That would give him the leg up if the Mets decide to go internal, right?

Well, there is a report that it could be someone else.

Jon Heyman is reporting that some in the league are speculating that Omar Minaya may be named the general manager once again.

The report also indicates that Minaya may not want to return to the job.

What if he did? Is it a good idea?

Whether you liked Omar or not, he is an excellent judge of talent.

Here are just a few of the players he discovered during his tenure with the Mets:

Our biggest beef lately is that the Mets can’t find players that are talented. The Wilpons waste resources and the franchise has suffered.

Putting Minaya back in charge will clearly get the ship going in the right direction. Omar Minaya knows a good baseball player when he sees one.

Mets front office doesn't care. dark. Next

But Omar isn’t perfect. We all remember his big-ticket signing of Jason Bay. How did that work out?

That was one of his worst moves, if not his absolute worst. I think if Omar was asked in private he would like to have that one back.

He did improve the Mets during his tenure, but he never took them over the top. The closest was 2006 when they won 97 games but it all ended with Carlos Beltran looking at strike three against the Cardinals.

OK I won’t talk about that anymore. It annoys me to think about too.

The same could be said about his time with the Expos. Granted, he worked with limited resources but still, they never finished higher than second.

That could be taken one of two ways. He would make the Mets better with the financial limits set by the Wilpons, or that he would run the Mets like a small market team.

It may not come to pass as Minaya may not be interested, but what if he is? He could help the Mets once again. What do you think?
