New York Mets: Mets front office once again fails to prove they care about the fans
The New York Mets have very few things going for them and a lot going against them. The issue is that the Mets’ biggest problem is nothing the fans can control, owners who simply do not care if fans are happy.
The New York Mets and bad ownership is not a tale that nobody knows about. This has been an issue for quite some time now.
Every single year fans dread free agency because the Mets let great players go and then use it to patch whatever position they feel weak at.
Even the trade deadline is something that fans can rarely look forward too. Often, it is fans watching their favorite players get dumped for salary relief and players who actually see the big leagues 25% of the time.

Both of those issues are direct reflections of the ownership. Yet, this almost has nothing to do with the past.
Every single time some sort of dilemma comes up with the Mets, the owners do the opposite of what should be done.
It is almost a guarantee that the Mets butcher this David Wright return or potential return. The front office would rather keep third base, of the infield in general, be the lackluster thing that is currently is.
But, let’s be real.
The real issue with this David Wright stuff has to be money. Even though the financial stuff about this all has rarely been mentioned by the front office, that what it has to be.
If David Wright wants to play, more importantly, if David Wright is physically able to play major league baseball by the time the season ends at game 162, it needs to happen.
There is no excuse to keep Wright waiting any longer. He has earned it. He has been the only bright spot and only long contract that has actually worked for this team in what felt like decades.
If playing in a World Series did not end it for Wright, it sure as heck should not be a 2018 season that has been over since June that does it.
And, I know, we all feel this way. Everyone is talking about the Mets ownership.
But, to me, it has never mattered about the money. There are ways being handed to the Mets that can make the fans happy without having to do a single thing.
The fans would be happy if Wright plays, let’s see how that goes.
The fans would be happy if Alonso got called up, that will not happen.
It should not matter that Alonso could be under team control for an extra year or whatever. Look at how much talent is still under team control for a while.
The Mets need to give their fans a reason to come to games and to care about next year at all. The Mets have been given opportunities that have nothing to do with any more than a couple of million dollars and they still won’t do the right thing.
It is impressive how the Mets ownership continues to be wrong. Being cheap is one thing. However, it is another thing to be shady about things they can do to make their fans happy even if it is for a couple of games in September.
If they do not let Wright play, or find some sort of lazy excuse there will be no reason to keep watching.
Even watching Jacob deGrom pitch is becoming heartbreaking to watch because the Mets never win those games due to a lack of talent around him.
At this point, it feels like the Mets are making their fans sad on purpose. What a sad story this is becoming. End of rant.
