Now that Khalil  Mack has been traded to the Chicago Bears, it’s time for the New York Jets to pivot and focus on Dante  Fowler.

New York Jets fans did not receive the news they were hoping for on Saturday afternoon. The big trade that nobody thought possible occurred, it just didn’t involve the Jets.

For anyone that hasn’t seen it yet, Khalil Mack was traded by the Oakland Raiders. However, he wasn’t sent to the Jets as many of us hoped, instead being shipped to Chicago to join the Bears.

Here are the trade details:

Ultimately it is tough to blame Mike Maccagnan for not matching this compensation. Yes the Bears got back two picks in 2020, but look at the first rounders given up.

Do you want the Jets not to have a first round pick until 2021? Neither do I. As nice as Mack would be on this team, having first round picks is a good thing also.

For all of the mid to late draft problems Maccagnan has had, his first round picks have been solid. Two out of three, Leonard Williams and Jamal Adams have been solid. Sam Darnold may just be the franchise. The only one that has disappointed has been Darron Lee.

Keeping the first round picks around is a good idea.

What this does mean is that it is time for the Jets to pivot.

They still need a pass rusher, there is no doubt. It’s time to pivot and go all in for Dante Fowler from Jacksonville.

Fowler is in the middle of his rookie contract. Per Spotrac, the Jaguars have declined his fifth-year option so you know they have had enough of him.

Despite his behavior issues, Fowler is an up and coming player. He doubled his sack totals from 2016 to 2017 (4 to 8).

Fowler is just entering his prime so talent-wise, the sky is the limit. He would easily become the best pass rusher on the team upon his acquisition.

Also keep in mind Maccagnan’s track record. Other than first round picks it has not been that good. Only one player drafted in 2015 (Leonard Williams) remains with the team. That’s a very bad look.

We can’t be 100% sure that Mike will bring in the right pass rusher. Ask Lorenzo Mauldin, Dylan Donahue and others.

Go get one via trade if possible. Fowler is now the guy.
