The New York Yankees have finally done something they should have a long time ago. They went out and got an outfielder. Considering the timing, Andrew McCutchen is not a bad last option.

The New York Yankees desperately needed to add bodies to their outfield. To say Andrew McCutchen is the first choice to do that would be a little far-fetched.

However, considering we are mere hours from September, Andrew McCutchen is a pretty darn good last-minute option.

The Yankees get depth for their outfield. It even makes sense for “Cutch” to come in right away to start at left or even right field.

Here is some conformation to the news:

But, of course there is a catch to this move. This likely means that Aaron Judge will continue to be out for a long period of time.

Even if the Yankees are being overly cautious with Judge, which you cannot blame them, that is not ideal for a player who is an MVP type talent.

So, making up for that with an actual former MVP is not too shabby on the Yankees part. It is also encouraging because even though Clint Frazier is still out, he would not be ready for a big role anyway.

You can’t throw him in the outfield everyday in the middle of a pennant race. Frazier can still be part of the team in some way when the Yanks need him.

So, by getting Cutch, the Yankees get a talented player who can eat up innings and even potentially play at a high level. Remember, even at 70% of what he used to be McCutchen is better than most players the Yankees could get at this point.

The Yankees have gone weeks without getting anyone to help replace Judge. A tearing Giancarlo Stanton, who is no longer the lone NL MVP in the Yanks’ outfield, and consistent power from Miguel Andujar helped the Yanks’ outfield need be less pressing.

However, with Judge not coming back any sooner, amongst other factors, it is time for the Yankees do this. It is almost September. They finally did something.

It does sort of the sting that the Yankees had to give up something to get Cutch this late in the season, but it is imperative they did something.

Now, the Yankees have options and can make Aaron Boone‘s job even easier. Cutch can give reps in all outfield position. That allows the Yankees to make Stanton the DH where he hits much better.

Shane Robinson has been absolutely abysmal in his trial on top of all this. It was simply time for the Yankees to do something. There is really no way to put it more bluntly.

The Yankees finally have options to shuffle players around and give more players days off as the season hits its peak importance.

Cutch can come in and be that guy who eats up innings, is a veteran who has been there before, and is simply an upgrade above all else.

Brian Cashman is brilliant. The team he has set up is almost the best it could possibly be while giving up the least they possibly could.

dark. Next. Aaron Boone is doing a fine job, stop the hate

Yankees just showed us how serious they are.
