George  Atkinson

Yep, George Atkinson is the son of the one that played for the Oakland Raiders. The young version is looking to hook on with the Jets at the end of their running back depth chart.

Elijah McGuire is out with an injury but it seems as if he will be back quickly. The Jets have not made a move to this point to put him on the short-term injured reserve, leading us to believe he will be back sooner rather than later.

The Jets have Thomas Rawls and Trenton Cannon in camp along with Atkinson. Rawls hasn’t had a good camp at all so he won’t be here.

Cannon has had a decent camp, but it has been marred by fumbling issues both in the running game and the return game.

Atkinson saw time in the first two games of the preseason. So far he has run the ball 16 times for 43 yards, a 2.7 yards per carry average. He has added two catches for 31 yards.

Are they pulse-pounding numbers? No. But he hasn’t been so bad to count him out of that last position on the depth chart.

Look to see him a lot on Thursday night in Philadelphia. A big game could really help his case to stick around.
