New York Giants: Three things to expect about the 53 man roster
The New York Giants must have their roster down to 53 players by September 1. So, Week 4 of the preseason only means something to a few bubble players. With that, what are some things to expect from the Giants final roster?
The New York Giants continue to have a productive offseason. One of the best things is, it is already apparent that the team is planning to build around Odell Beckham and Saquon Barkley.
Also, by sticking with Eli Manning, it seems as if the Giants believe that last season was a bust and that this team can contend for the playoffs this season.
So, before we break down some bubble players and if they will be safe or not, let’s just guessing how the depth chart will shake up for Big Blue.
Will there be more QBs than running backs? What position are the Giants going to try to bolster the most? Let’s take some guesses on what to expect from the Giants final 53 in terms of how it might look on the surface.
3. Lot of running back depth
Right now, the Giants seemingly have Saquon Barkley and Wayne Gallman as locks to make the 53 that is pretty much it.
Jonathan Stewart is a proven back in this league and he will likely stay on board despite not having done much thus far in the preseason.
In addition to those three locks, I would not be surprised to see the Giants keep a guy like Robert Martin out there too.
With the Saquon injury, the Giants need to be really safe at depth here. Also, with Saquon relatively unproven and Stewart lacking from where he used to be, the Giants should not rely on just Wayne Gallman for depth.
Gallman has done fine and will get his reps but there still needs to be a lot of depth behind him with all the question marks surrounding this position that was awful last season.
