On Friday night at MetLife Stadium, New York Giants star receiver Odell  Beckham Jr. showed how athletes can make a positive impact on a child’s life.

A lot has been written and said about the New York Giants star. Odell Beckham Jr.’s all-world talent is undeniable. Fans and experts can argue for days and days about his character and how his team has handled him.

However, that is a discussion for another day. On this day, it was all smiles with number 13 in white. He reminded us what is good and right about sports.

This one was personal for me as it involved my eight year old nephew. Anyone who reads my column knows I am a raving Jets fan.

But that doesn’t matter. Beckham took just seven seconds to make a positive impact on my nephew, creating a moment he will never forget.

More from Empire Writes Back

On Friday night at the MetLife Bowl, me and my four guests (including my nephew) were lucky enough to have pregame field passes.

This gave us access on the field just before the game, including when the teams came running out of the tunnel and through the National Anthem.

It took some time for the busy staff at MetLife Stadium to direct my party to the right location, but that only made the result more special.

We entered the field and my nephew was amazed by the enormity of it. He looked around the field with stars in his eyes.

Remember how we all felt the first time we were there live? I was reliving that through his eyes and it was just as special now as it was then.

But it got even more special.

Being situated on the Giants side of the field, the team ran past us a couple of times. Everyone called out for high fives but the players had no real time to stop.

Well, the National Anthem was performed, and out appeared Beckham. My nephew called his name one last time, and then this happened:

Next. Thanks Victor. dark

Beckham showed an undeniable humility in taking the time. Did you notice how long the video was? Seven seconds.

It doesn’t take a long investment of time to make a positive impact. Just a few seconds makes all the difference in the world.

OBJ could have run off to the bench with his teammates. He certainly couldn’t have been blamed for that. But that is not what he did.

He saw that my young nephew was a huge fan and he took the time to thank him and give him a fist bump. That’s what it is all about, folks.

Our young fans are the ones that will love this great game after we are all gone. Now he will have a memory that will live forever, thanks to the kind action of Odell Beckham Jr.

All athletes should be so generous.
