Rookie of the year and then some

The New York Yankees have either struck lightning in a bottle or absolute gold with Miguel Andujar. Right now, it seems like both.

Forget just being the clear-cut favorite in the rookie of the year race, as someone who watches him every day, there is even a remote ounce of MVP worthy play.

The only thing going wrong for Andujar right now is that he sometimes, cannot always, make a perfect play in the field.

Other than that, he has been phenomenal.

When thinking of the Yankees rookies it is obvious to point to Gleyber Torres. Although he could still be better than “Miggy” one day, Andujar is clearly the best one right now.

Andujar is clutch at the plate. He not only leads the team in doubles, but is batting right around .300 and is the only Yankee even close to that who would be eligible for a batting title.

It seems unfair to put a lot of pressure on Andujar. He is only a rookie but the Yankees are going to need him down the stretch.

Until Torres clears his rookie hurdles, and until Didi comes back, Andujar is the anchor of the infield.

He is arguably even the best hitter on the Yankees now. His pop is unreal too. He just finds ways to bang out extra base hits. In the analytical baseball world we live in now, that is such an important thing to be able to do.

Andujar also only has 79 strikeouts. Judge and Stanton already have over 100. So, even looking ahead to the playoffs, Anduajr’s ability to simply just get on base is going to be the most important thing to this lineup.

Andujar has not only emerged himself as the Yankees star rookie, he has emerged as arguably their most valuable player.

The Yankees can go far if Miggy keeps this up.
