Russell and Kyrie together would be fine

Although it is often unwise to not get a prized free agent because there is “no need” the Nets still don’t have to worry about that.

D’Angelo Russell might or might not pan out in 2018-2019. He will either prove he can be a franchise guy or be expendable. This is the point the Nets are at with his development.

Either way, it wouldn’t impact a potential move to bring in Kyrie Irving.

Irving can still come in and be the top point guard and Russell can still have minutes, playing time, and even a leadership role.

Him and Kyrie could go hand in hand and be a dynamic duo. Plus Kyrie might like that because he wants to be the star and even if he has a great season Russell is far from the star Kyrie is.

So, the Nets could easily bring in a guy like Kyrie all while keeping a good majority of the players already on the team.

If the Nets like Russell and would bring him back anyway, it does not matter they could still do that.

The Nets will have two max slots next summer. They might not even need to use one on Russell.

So, the Nets still have plenty of options and room to have Kyrie and Russell.

Although keeping Russell over Kyrie is not a thing the Nets should do had that situation present its self, they could get a great balance of both of them.
