The Knicks and superstars Kyrie Irving and Jimmy Butler have been linked to rumors for some time now. With both becoming free agents following the 2018-19 season, how likely is it the Knicks get both?

The New York Knicks have been on a mission to become relevant for quite some time now. That mission could come to fruition entering the 2019-20 season.

If the Knicks manage to reel in both Kyrie Irving and Jimmy Butler, they would quickly become one of the best teams in the east.

With Lebron James leaving the already weak Eastern Conference, the East is at its weakest point in recent memory and possibly ever. With that being said, it would only take a player or two to contend in the East for the chance to compete for a championship.

Adding Irving and Butler to a lineup that already contains Kristaps Porzingis would skyrocket the Knicks from the bottom of the East to the top. Those are three players that averaged about 24, 4 and 5. 22, 5 and 5 and 23, 7 and 1 respectively.

A trio of these three would be one of the deadliest in the NBA and more than likely the deadliest in the East. Not only that, but Kyrie leaving Boston would make the top contender in the East and a Knicks rival much weaker.

This means that the Knicks only tough competition would be the Philadelphia 76ers. This of course is assuming the Raptors are not able to bring back their projected one year rental, Kawhi Leonard.

If the Raptors do manage to bring back Leonard, they would be one of the toughest opponents in the East seeing they would have a duo of Leonard and Kyle Lowry.

Nonetheless, adding both Irving and Butler to any team let alone a team with one of the best young players in the league makes you capable of contending with anyone and everyone.
