The New York Giants ended up looking like a deep team in a solid win vs the Lions in their second game since bolstering the coaching staff. However, in what they might need the most, they got the most of.

The New York Giants were without Saquon Barkley in this one. After showing looking lost early on in the game when the starters were in, the Giants eventually got into a groove.

Davis Webb, who probably needed an impressive outing more than anybody, went out and did that.

Don’t believe me? See for yourself.

This is what the Giants needed more than anything, honestly. Saquon Barkley being too injured to play in the pre-season is obviously unfortunate but it opened the door for guys to get reps who still need to prove their skills.

What the Giants needed more than anything vs the Lions in this game was to prove that life beyond Eli Manning was not too far away.

Eli Manning is the starting QB but, as we all know, he cannot do it forever. However, the next QB is not a pressing issue like it is for a lot of teams.

However, to look ahead for the sake of being prepared, just about a week ago it almost felt as if his replacement was not even on the roster.

Now, the signs are more encouraging.

Webb looked great. Well, at least better than he did the last week. His nerves seemed to calm down and the Lions defense sort of took the night off once the game got underway but its the potential the Giants needed.

The Giants did not see sorcery out of their QBs tonight. Webb looked great anyway.

Even Kyle Lauletta earned his reps and did solid. He was the one who initially played with nerves this week. But, he still overcame that all to put on another admirable performance. And he still has plenty of opportunities to prove how he can help the team.

The Giants also got TDs out of Wayne Gallman, who needed to turn heads tonight, for the Giants to have an idea of what to throw behind Barkley.

So, tonight’s game was impressive on many fronts for the Giants, however, the most important thing they got out of it was great QB play and players shining.

They showed off they might actually have depth and that despite having an awful year last year, they still have a lot of talent on their hands
