Buffalo Bills: Three things to know ahead of game vs the Browns
Who will start Week 1?
Who is starting for the Buffalo Bills Week 1 still remains the biggest and most important question surrounding this Bills team.
That will not change until that announcement is made. The thing is, that announcement might not be made any time soon.
Despite the fact that Coach Sean McDermott already knows who he is starting, vs the Browns the fans still do not.
And despite the fact that only one man can start, there are still two other solid QBs on this team.
Throughout all of camp each QB is shuffling all around the depth chart. The only note to that is that Josh Allen does not and likely will not see reps with the first team yet.
However, that is why this QB battle is like no other in team history and still wide open. I really believe that.
During this game, if Allen makes more throws accurately and improves off last week, then he will give himself a chance to start sooner rather than later.
If Nathan Peterman does not start, which its likely he will, then he can use this Browns game to show he is more than “5 interceptions” which is an issue he still has to shake off despite other more impressive outings.
Then there is the dark horse of the group, AJ McCarron. He is the guy who was brought in off the streets in what was a very quiet free agent signing.
McCarron and the Bills could have everyone right he wants them. He is the veteran of the group who has started a playoff game. Peterman only briefly made a relief appearance in one last year.
If all McCarron does vs the Browns is show he won’t be immaculate, but reliable and consistent, that is all the Bills might want for the first few weeks of the season.
Either way, this Bills QB competition is wide open. And even as this game goes well into the night and 4th quarter, each QB needs every single rep to separate themselves.
Allen needs to wow everyone. Peterman needs to keep holding it down and shake off a narrative. McCarron needs to keep rolling and hoping his suave style will win him over.
The Bills do not need to win vs the Browns. Although many things will happen and there is a lot of things to watch, these are the top three things to know for Friday night’s game.
