In April, the Buffalo Bills traded up to get their guy in Josh Allen out of Wyoming. Now that we have seen him, it is time to start seeing how high he can go. With Allen, there is Brett  Favre potential.

The Buffalo Bills selected Josh Allen 7th overall in 2018 NFL Draft. It was no secret the Bills wanted to go get their franchise QB just no one knew how they were going to pull it off.

Well, after a brilliant offseason in 2017 when General Manager Brandon Beane and crew loaded up on draft picks, the Bills were able to trade up to get their guy who we now know is Josh Allen.

But, just how high is Josh Allen’s ceiling?

More from Empire Writes Back

For starters, he was one of the most hyped up players heading into the draft. He has an absolute cannon. No one can take away from him.

However, as the offseason began with training camp Allen was the lowest on the depth chart between himself, AJ McCarron, and Nathan Peterman.

Since then, between all the practices and the Bills’ pre-season game against the Panthers, we got a glimpse of what Josh Allen can do at the NFL level.

In college, Allen struggled with accuracy and threw a lot of turnovers. In his two years as a starter, he had over 1,000 yards and over 150 completions in each of his two seasons. This includes a 209 completion season in 2016.

However, and this is the issue, the reason for some of the doubters, he was inaccurate. At Wyoming, he never had a season where he completed over 60% of his passes and threw 15 interceptions in the season he had the most attempts.

So, the stats are not ideal in terms of efficiency. But, at the end of the day, Allen can get it done by slinging the football downfield and making tight throws most other QBs cannot make.

What NFL legend threw a lot of interceptions, played in the cold, had an arm, and is a decent sized athlete?

There is more than one but the first one that comes to mind is NFL legend, Brett Favre.

The best part is, it goes beyond the eye test. Favre’s stats are something that Josh Allen is capable of doing with the right system and team around him.

Zero times in Bret Favre’s illustrious career did he finish the season with a completion percentage over 70. His career percentage is 62% Not much higher than Allen’s at Wyoming’s which was 56.

It goes beyond that. In Green Bay, Favre never had a season where he did not throw less than 12 interceptions.

Yet, Favre always delivered the big throws on the biggest stages.

That is exactly why Josh Allen and Bret Favre could end up having similar career’s when it is all said and done.

With the right balance of making clutch throws that get yardage and score touchdowns, Allen can afford to miss a few passes or give one away.

As long as he makes the throws his opposing QB cannot he will be able to win football games. There will be times where be times where his likely inaccuracies cost the Bills games.

However, and there is that word again, a balance between the great and errant throws will be everything.

It might take a lot of time and some coaching. It will take learning the hard way and a rude awakening. But, Josh Allen can be a great QB in this league if he lets his powerful arm makes throws that can win games alone.

Brett Favre is an iconic QB. More importantly, he was one who made it all work. That is exactly what Josh Allen is going to have to do and it is possible.

If Josh Allen continues to show us exactly what he has been showing us then it will likely result in him playing exactly like Brett Favre did and having similar stats.

Big throws, a lot of misses, but a lot of winning. That would be ideal for the Buffalo Bills and their fans who are so desperate for a franchise QB.

Next. Mack to the Jets sounds nice but should not happen. dark

Allen can easily be that.
