Yet another New York Yankees star has hit the DL. CC Sabathia was placed on the 10-Day DL on Monday due to inflammation in his right knee. But what does this mean for the Yankees going forward?

The New York Yankees have had a lot of problems with their starting pitcher rotation lately, and yesterday it got even more complicated. It’s a very good thing the Yankees traded for both Lance Lynn and J.A. Happ before the deadline because if they hadn’t, they would be in big trouble.

CC Sabathia is headed to the 10-Day DL which means he will miss at least one start, possibly two. Sabathia’s next scheduled start was next Tuesday against the Marlins, but now that he is headed to the DL, this means he will miss that start and possibly the next one after that.

This means the Yankees had two options when it came to putting someone on the hill against the Marlins next week. They could have either called someone up such as either Chance Adams or Justus Sheffield, or they can move every starter up a day.

However, the Yankees seem to be going with Luis Cessa as their guy to replace him in the rotation.

The last time the Yankees had to decide between either pulling up a pitcher or moving pitchers up the start, they went with the former. When the Yankees had to use Lance Lynn in a reliever role and J.A. Happ hit the DL, the Yankees went with Chance Adams, the righty from the minors.

Adams had a decent start with the exception of a two-run homer in the bottom of the first. Adams lasted five innings letting up three runs on only three hits. If the Yankees ended up going with Chance Adams giving him his second start would have brought better numbers.

Seeing the Yankees will be going up against the Marlins, who currently are tied for the worst record in the National League at 48-73, it more than likely would have been a different outcome than when he pitched in Boston.

Adams is a very fast paced pitcher which might throw off the Marlins so that move would have made sense.

As the commentators pointed out in his start against the Red Sox, Adams nearly never leaves the mound and tries to keep the game moving as much as possible.

The other option of course would have been moving all the starters up a day which would mean Masahiro Tanaka would get the nod against the Marlins and then Lance Lynn would take his spot the following day.

However, based on Aaron Boone’s previous decision to call up Chance Adams rather than moving pitchers up a day, I think would have been the best move to make. Instead we will see Cessa who we have seen a lot of already.

However, no matter who it is, this opens the door for a young pitcher to get some valuable reps which is both a blessing and a curse. Losing CC is rough, but allowing any young pitcher to showcase what they got is not the worst thing.
