New York Jets Stock Report: Three up and three down after game one
Three on the Decline
- Lorenzo Mauldin
As a third round pick in the 2015 draft, the Jets had expectations that Lorenzo Mauldin would be a player that could help cure the edge pass rush issues.
That hasn’t come to pass, unfortunately. He hasn’t been able to stay healthy and he hasn’t been able to produce much when he has been healthy. 6.5 sacks over his first two seasons is not what the Jets were hoping for.
Friday night he wasn’t even able to play. According to Manish Mehta of the Daily News, Mauldin may be gone sooner rather than later. He will have to turn it around fast because his stock is falling fast.
- Chad Hansen
Chad Hansen was a guy that things were looking up for heading into training camp. As we heard he was working out with Sam Darnold during the time off. He seemed to have a head of steam as things began at Florham Park, NJ.
We haven’t heard Hansen’s name called very often in practice. During the Falcons game, Hansen only saw 24 snaps and went without a reception. Tre McBride actually saw more snaps (32) and was in the game sooner.
Hansen is going to have to right the ship quickly if he wants to remain on the Jets in 2018 as anything more than a practice squad member.
- Jordan Leggett
If you read my work you know I am a fan of Jordan Leggett. His touchdown total was one of my early bold predictions prior to the start of training camp.
He stands at 6-5, which is a perfect size to be a red zone nightmare for opponents. He led his position at the Combine in both the 20 yard and 60 yard shuffle.
With 18 touchdowns in four seasons at Clemson it was clear that he could be a solid threat. The Jets getting him in the fifth round has the potential to be one of his most underrated moves the Jets have made.
The problem is he hasn’t been able to get on the field. He was out all of 2017 and was unable to play in the game against the Falcons. Leggett was in practice and in pads during Sunday’s practice with the Redskins.
The time to get things going is now.
