Today we are going to look at each dropback by New York Jets rookie Sam   Darnold from the preseason game against the Falcons.

Friday night gave New York Jets fans a glimpse into the future. Around midway through the second quarter, Sam Darnold stepped onto the field to take his first professional snaps. Smiles could be seen all over Jets Nation.

Those smiles were met with a stellar performance by the rookie. Things looked pretty bright as Darnold led his team on a ten play, 64 yard scoring drive in the second quarter. He had the fortitude to throw a touchdown pass after one was taken away due to a penalty.

He went 13-18 for 96 yards and a touchdown. Darnold also didn’t throw an interception. Overall, he had a good command of the offense and a good understanding of what the defense was throwing at him.

Today we are going to take a deeper look into Darnold’s performance. Specifically it’s going to be a play by play breakdown of each of his dropbacks.

Darnold came in during the second quarter so that is where we will begin. We are going to talk about what he saw, what the formations looked like and what types of decisions he made.

It will be a deep dive into how Darnold played and how encouraging it really was. It was one game but it’s one that all Jets fans should be happy about.
