Nathan Shepherd

The Jets third round pick joins the team a bit older at 24 years old. He has been around, starting his football days up in Canada with Simon Fraser before ending up at Fort Hays St.

In his final college season, Shepherd was the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year and named as a second-team division II All-American. He posted 12.5 TFLs and four sacks.

He turned heads at the Senior Bowl practices and has turned more heads so far during Jets camp. Shepherd has gotten reps with the first team defense and we should look for more of the same tonight.

At 6-4, 315 pounds, Shepherd is the type of player that can attract attention. Much in the way that Damon Harrison did, he can occupy multiple offensive linemen. That will free up players to make plays.

As an older player, the Jets are expecting a lot out of Nathan Shepherd. He is the only rookie on the current depth chart with the first team. Of course the list will change, but him being on it this high early in the game says a lot.

Let’s see what he can do in his first NFL action.
