New York Giants: Saquon’s first impression is everything we thought it would be
Saquon Barkley played like a star in his very first game with the New York Giants. His first impression was everything we all expected.
Saquon Barkley, despite only rushing for 43 total yards, actually had a really good debut. He averaged almost 10 yards per carry and had exploded for 39 yards on his first touch with the New York Giants.
Saquon did not disappoint in what was an otherwise lackluster game for the Giants in their loss on Thursday night.
There are very little doubts behind Saquon’s talent and potential. Most of the chagrin coming from Giants fan surrounding their team’s draft pick was that it was not a quarterback.

But, even though he barely played, the Giants should be encouraged by what they saw from the Penn State running back.
Don’t be too turned off that his night was carried by one explosive play, that is what he does. He will almost give you that one exciting play where he gets away and then will play efficiently and get yards a more traditional ground and pound way down the stretch.
If the Giants’ offensive line can give Saquon even just a little bit space and time, he will be set up to succeed and even be the best running back in the league.
Against the Browns, Barkley saw a limited load which is good, but in his small window to succeed he did exactly that.
We can even look at this as a game where he sort of just lived up to the hype and did not do anything too wrong. His short leash was just to not rush him into things.
As the pre-season progresses, so will Barkley he will get much more time with the stating unit and can hopefully truly be the centerpiece of the offense. The Giants need to at least try it.
But, if we take Barkley’s game and throw in all the factors, it is tough to say it is not encouraging. He showed us the breakaway speed and expensiveness we knew he had right away
If by the end of the pre-season the Giants can get him into the passing game a little more and maybe start getting creative with how he lines up in the backfield, then his progress will be going exactly like the Giants wanted.
For now, the one big rush is a good enough first impression. It is a big important Barkley just does what we know he can for now so he can impress us later.
