For the rest of the New York Mets’ season it’s all about trying to enjoy the little things and just trying to have fun at the ballpark. One of the fun things is the emergence of Zack Wheeler. He is important for the team next year.

The New York Mets are giving fans very little reason to watch their last 50 games or so. However, and regardless of how we feel about it, the Mets are aiming to contend in 2019.

One of the bright spots for the Mets lately is Zack Wheeler. And since they did not trade him at the deadline, they must be high for what he can do for them in the upcoming seasons.

He is coming off another gem of an outing vs the Atlanta Braves and he continues to be on a roll now that he is healthy.

More from New York Mets

I don’t know if it was all the injuries and him being rushed back. But now, the Mets are getting the Zack Wheeler they had hoped for all along. He is in a groove and his starts are worth tuning into.

So, if he keeps bringing it in the rest of this year with nothing on the line it will help the Mets next year when they have a fresh start.

Looking ahead into next year, the Mets’ rotation will likely look exactly the same or at least similar. Maybe the only change will be giving Corey Oswalt a permanent spot in the rotation.

But, if you take a healthy, dialed in Zack Wheeler like we are seeing now and give him a full 2019 season of the same type of pitching the Mets might actually shock the world and win some baseball games.

The rotation would include Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard, Wheels.  That is three straight near automatic great outing every single time. The Mets would rarely lose three games series if all three of them are bringing what they are now.

deGrom and Syndergaard are going to be fine. We know what the Mets have in them. Wheeler is the difference maker in this. Having three pitchers who bring ace-like stuff to the hill every day will win you a lot more games than just two, it is an obvious difference.

It is not that Zack Wheeler is the most valuable or most important player for the Mets going into next season. But, without a healthy Yoenis Cespedes and a lot of question marks around players like Jay Bruce, Steven Matz, Jason Vargas, and Jose Bautista, Wheeler is the difference maker.

If Wheels keeps up the pace and stays healthy and works hard in the off-season he can come in 2019 and be a critical piece on if the Mets’ delusion becomes accuracy.

Give deGrom the respect he deserves. dark. Next

There is a lot of negative culture and drama coming out of the blue and orange right now but don’t let the bigger picture of Zack Wheeler bringing get away from us. 2019 can be bright, somehow.
