The New York Jets had alumni in for the Green and White scrimmage on Saturday night, and an old friend was helping Robby  Anderson on the sidelines.

Joe Cocker, as well as others, once sang that they “…get by with a little help from their friends”. The New York Jets had many old friends back for the Green and White scrimmage Saturday night at Rutgers.

They call the group the “Jets Legends” although some would not necessarily qualify as legends. Basically everybody that played with the team that is around is invited to come to the Green and White scrimmage.

Santonio Holmes was a player that fans will certainly remember. If you want to talk about a family member, Holmes would definitely qualify. Just like any member of the family, there were good times and bad times.

The good times were great. I think we all remember this touchdown in the 2010 AFC divisional playoffs against the New England Patriots. Those were some sweet times, am I right?

Then we had the very bad times.

There was the end of the 2011 season. Remember that day in Miami? Holmes got kicked out of the offensive huddle by lineman Wayne Hunter.

See what I mean? Just like family, we are mad and one minute and love the next.

Well he was in attendance at Rutgers on Saturday night to watch his former team, and he spent some time on the sidelines.

According to Darryl Slater of NJ.com and NJ Advanced Media, Holmes spent time with young Robby Anderson.

He spent several minutes on the sidelines with Anderson going over technique with him.

With over 6,000 yards and 36 touchdowns to his credit as well as a Super Bowl MVP, Holmes is a good guy to get advice from, whether or not you hold the 2011 incident against him.

It’s great to see a player like Holmes paying it forward. As we mentioned, he has quite the list of accomplishments under his belt. He’s not a Hall of Famer but he was quite productive.

As long as he doesn’t teach him how to be a diva, the Jets will be just fine. We don’t need Robby Anderson getting into arguments in the huddle.
