Game Three Matchup and Prediction

Game Three

Yankees @ Red Sox

8/4 4:05pm

J.A. Happ vs. Nathan Eovaldi

Fenway Park

J.A. Happ?

J.A. Happ‘s second appearance in a Yankees uniform will be arguably the most important of his season.

This time, it’s not the Royals at home. He is going up against the Red Sox, in Boston, with the Yankees season potentially on the line.

In Happ’s first appearance in Pinstripes, he went six innings strong allowing only three hits and one run.

While with the Blue Jays, Happ went up against the Red Sox twice, one of which was only three weeks ago.

In Happ’s first appearance against Boston, he let up only one run and four hits while going seven innings and striking out 10 with zero walks. Happ was fantastic in this game and if he pitches anything like this it’s highly unlikely the Yankees lose this game.

In his second appearance only a few weeks ago, he was not as strong as he was back in April. In this appearance, Happ went 3.2 innings while letting up five hits and five runs, but not one of them was earned.

Hopefully, Happ gets better from the hand, foot, and mouth disease in enough time to make his scheduled start

Nathan Eovaldi

Like Happ, this will be Eovaldi’s first game in the rivalry as he was just acquired from the Rays. Also like Happ, in Eovaldi’s first appearance in his new uniform he had a strong outing going seven strong allowing only four hits and no runs.

This season, Eovaldi has only gone up against the Yankees once in which he had seven strong innings before a rough eighth.

In the first seven innings, Eovaldi let up two runs on a home run and a sac fly. When the eighth inning rolled around he let up three more runs and the Rays went on to lose the game 5-0.

Once again, similar to Happ, Eovaldi relies heavily on his fast ball as it is his go-to pitch. If the Yankees can get on the fastball early they’ll be able to take him out of the game early which should lead to a Yankees win if they play it right.

Prediction: BOS 3 NYY 2

Unfortunately for the Yankees, Happ will have a great game but it won’t be enough. The Yankees bats will struggle against Eovaldi as he has yet another strong outing for the Red Sox.

As the Yanks struggle vs Eovaldi, the Red Sox will manage to get a few by Happ ultimately leading to a Red Sox win.
