New York Yankees: Yanks vs Red Sox series preview, matchups, and predictions
Game Two Matchup and Prediction
Game Two
Yankees @ Red Sox
8/3 7:10pm
Luis Severino vs. Rick Porcello
Fenway Park
Luis Severino
Severino has been the Yankees ace all season. However, he has struggled as of late. On the season, Severino has a 2.94 ERA and a 14-4 record.
However, in each of his last two starts he has let up six earned runs while going only 4.1 innings in one game and 5.0 in the other.
This season, Severino has gone up against the Red Sox three times and the Yankees have won in two of them.
The first time Severino went up against Boston happened to be the worst of the three as he let up eight hits, five earned runs, and lasted five innings. The Yankees went on to lose that game 14-1.
Sevy’s second appearance was much better as he went six innings, let up only six hits, and two earned runs. Severino was much more dominant in the second appearance as he struck out 11 batters and did not let up a single walk.
In his third game. Severino had another great game. He went 6.2 innings, let up only two hits, and had zero runs.
The Yankees offense also helped Sevy out as the Bronx Bombers went on to win the game 11-1.
If Severino pitches like that you can expect the Yankees to come away with the second game rather easily.
Rick Porcello
Like Severino, Porcello has been pretty good this season boasting a 13-4 record and a less impressive but still somewhat respectable 4.03 ERA.
Porcello has gone up against the Yankees twice this season and he put up one great performance, and one pretty horrible performance.
When he faced the Yankees back in April, Porcello went seven strong letting up only two hits without a single run. He was shutting down the Yankees batter after batter. All the while, striking out six Yankees with no walks. If this is the Porcello that shows up the Yankees will have a tough time.
The second appearance in May did not go quite as well as the one in April. Porcello went 5.1 innings and let up eight hits to go along with five runs. The Yankees got the better of the Sox and went on to win this game 9-6.
Prediction: NYY 7 BOS 1
In game two, Luis Severino will finally get back to his normal self and show everyone he had only hit a temporary slump.
Sevy will go at least six strong innings with few hits and only one earned run which will help the Yankees grab another game from the Red Sox thus lowering the Red Sox strangle hold on the East to only 3.5 games.
On the other side, the Rick Porcello who went 5.1 innings and let up five runs back in May will show up rather than the two hit, no run Porcello from April. With this being said, the Yankees manage to get all over Porcello winning game two of the series.
