The New York Yankees have finally brought in some strong mercenaries to finally win the battle against the Boston Red Sox.

The New York Yankees have added some fire power bringing in some much-needed new arms and another first baseman to be used during the 40 man roster time. Each major player as already taken on the Sox and looks to be on the positive side of the outcome against them.

Brian Cashman has a strong plan in place let’s take a look at what’s been done up to this point at the trades with more to follow during the waiver trade period in August.

What’s Happening

J.A. Happ was brought in as another strong option to start and immediately took some of the pressure away from Severino, in Happ’s first start in pinstripes he through 6 scoreless frames and look good doing it.

The Yankees have been looking for another strong left-handed option and though C.C. Sabathia has been above average with his pitch selection and breaking stuff, you never know when he may need to hit the D.L with inflammation or soreness.

More from Empire Writes Back

Happ brings a strong veteran presence and much-needed calm, to enhance the Yankees starting rotation. Happ however has one very important Quality, he knows how to pitch and beat the Red Sox.

Coming from the division he already knows how to take on their lineup and has no fear in going after the Red Sox young speedy team, given that the Yankees play the Red Sox 10 more times this year Brian Cashman took this into account when giving away players and prospects for a veteran rental pitcher.

Bring me Lance

For those that remember Lance Lynn was in the Yankees plans during the off-season, he however like the rest of the free agents this past year thought he would have received more money. So he wait to sign and ended up with the Twins.

Now at the home stretch of the season he has made his way back to NY but this time not for a visit. Lance Lynn has the potential to very strong-arm and can bring a mid-long reliever mentality into the bullpen, when the 40 man roster opens don’t be surprised to see Lynn as the Yankees 6th Starting pitcher in which Boone can start getting extra days rest in what looks to be a wild card kind of season.

Lynn is another pitcher however who brings strong features and has done very well against the Red Sox, his ground ball percentage of 50 percent makes him ideal for a strong armed Yankees infield who would love nothing more than to field the ball routinely on every other play.

Snacking on Scrapes

Luke Voit was picked up from the cardinals around the same time the J.A. Happ transaction was being finalized, this freed up the Yankees to deal Tyler Austin.

Luke plays a solid first base and is more of a consistent hitter then Tyler, though is power has yet to be confirmed yet. The Yankees also signed a pair of minor league contracts to fill the depth issues left by trading of prospects at two levels.

Adam Warren was sent to the Mariners for International Cash money, which means the Yankees are preparing to go back over the cap once the beat the threshold and tax penalties this year. With now having the max money allowed for the international cash pool.

They can focus on signing free agents and not be as concerned about losing their second round draft pick once the sign a max veteran such as Dallas Keuchel or Patrick Corbin to the starting rotation.

Final Thoughts

dark. Next. Red Sox vs. Yankees preview

The Yankees are ready for one final push, they know it may be hard to gather ground outside of head to head play and with the new depth of pitching and fresh arms the Sox haven’t seen in Pinstripes.

The Yankees will look to go straight up and still back the difference in the win loss column by taking the Red Sox in the upcoming series. It’ll be an exciting finish come September especially with the return of power bats Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez.
