The Boston Red Sox traded for second baseman, Ian Kinsler. How does this impact the New York Yankees and the AL East race?

In case you haven’t quite realized yet the New York Yankees are one of the best teams in the MLB, tied with the Astros for the second most wins in the league. Who is the one team they trail you ask? Well it’s the Boston Red Sox who happen to be in the same division as the Yanks, and they just got stronger.

With Dustin Pedroia on the sideline indefinitely the Red Sox had been somewhat weak at second base, and they’d been looking to reload the position for quite some time now. With the addition of Ian Kinsler the Red Sox have finally found their guy.

Kinsler has been bouncing around the MLB recently after being traded from the Tigers to the Angels in December, and now being traded to Boston. So how does this impact the Yankees?

The Yankees are currently six game back in the AL East behind the Red Sox with a game tonight and tomorrow against the Orioles and then a four game set in Boston. With the trade going down last night/this morning Kinsler will be ready to suit up for the Red Sox when they take the field on Thursday to kick off the series against the Yankees.

Next. Happ leaves a great first impression. dark

This means the Red Sox will have a full lineup in order to push their series lead to as much as 11.5 games. The Red Sox now have a guy they know what to expect out of in Kinsler. This means they will no longer have to rely on Brock Holt at second base, which makes the Sox even scarier.

While Holt may have a better average than Kinsler this season, Kinsler is arguably a better fielder which makes the Sox even more dangerous. Also if the Red Sox did still wanna have Holt in the lineup they could put him at third and move Eduardo Nunez to the bench.

Whatever the Red Sox do decide on, one thing is for sure, they just got significantly more dangerous, which is not good at all for the Yankees.
