New York Jets: Three training camp standouts from early practices
Nathan Shepherd
Here is a player that has the chance to be an underrated pick from the 2018 draft.
Nathan Shepherd was the Jets third round choice out a little college known as Fort Hays St. His career began in Canada as a native of our neighbors to the North. He is an older rookie coming to the Jets at 28 years old.
We have talked about the Jets need for a rotation on the defensive line. Without big stars the team needs to rotate players in and out to keep them fresh. Shepherd is making a case to be part of that rotation.
According to Slater, Shepherd was appearing with the first team defense starting on day one. Cimini and Slater have both commented on his play at various points over the first four practices, speaking of him destroying opponents like left guard James Carpenter.
If Shepherd can continue his rise he will make a big impact as a rookie. He is one to keep an eye on in the coming days.
This draft could turn into quite the successful one for Mike Maccagnan and the Jets. Yes, it’s early, but his rookies are already turning heads.
We shall see how things go as training camp progresses, and all eyes are on the game against the Falcons on August 10.
