Not much happening in the front office

The New Jersey Devils may have been relatively quiet this offseason but that is not an accident.

This is one of those instances where no news is good news. The Devils might be coming off a playoff season but that does not mean it is time to go all-in.

The Devils would be unwise to blow it up (obviously) or to go all-in and give up picks or players to instantly improve.

Doing neither of those things is the right choice, so the Devils once again got that right. They didn’t win the draft lottery again so that doesn’t help.

However, the Devils have their core of the future already on the roster. Even if they don’t make the playoffs again, patience will pay off one day.

Nico Hischier, Taylor Hall, Jesper Bratt, heck even Sami Vatanen can or will be around for a while. The Devils continuity from last year to the upcoming one will do more wonders than any free agent signing would right now.

The Devils wisely used their one first-round pick in the draft, re-signed a few players here and there, and made a couple outside moves.

There will not be much different from the last Devils team to the upcoming one.

Continuity in hockey pays off more than most sports because line chemistry and a grinding playoffs mean everything.

The Devils are pulling that off perfectly. There is no reason to believe it won’t pay off either. They made the playoffs and lost in the first round. There is more room for them to get better than worse.

The Devils making almost no change is perhaps the best change of all. Expect more or less the same in the upcoming season.
