It’s finally ending. Per multiple sources, the New York Jets and Sam  Darnold have worked out the terms of his contract, ending the holdout.

New York Jets fans, rejoice! Dance around the living room if you like. Celebrate. The time we have been waiting for since April has come to an end. I’ll let Adam Schefter’s tweet tell you it all:

The money is no surprise, as we have discussed before that the rookie salaries are predetermined. That was never the issue.

The language was the problem. According to Manish Mehta of the Daily News, the offset language was not dropped from the deal. That matches Jets normal practices.

It also matched how the similar deals were handled for rookies like Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen. Their contracts included offsets.

Next. Three things to expect from the Jets in 2018. dark

As we have said previously, we aren’t going to spend much time on the business end of things. To that part it seems like both sides gave a little for the greater good.

That greater good was getting Sam Darnold into training camp where he has belonged since day one. He is the biggest winner of the day with the news that is coming out. He gets to do what he does best, play football.

Now that Darnold is in, he can pursue the goal of starting in week one. The Jets should not assume he can’t play against the Lions after missing three practices.

He was performing well during the spring. There still is the Green and White scrimmage along with six practices before the first preseason game, under the assumption that his first practice will occur Wednesday.

The Jets can work him back into the rotation and he can get his time with the first team. All can finally be back to normal at Florham Park, NJ.

At least as normal as we can expect with the Jets. Am I right?

UPDATE: Per Rich Cimini, Darnold took his first reps today, giving him that much more of a chance to get into the mix.
