The New York Red Bulls are having an incredible season. As a team, they are poised once again make a run in the MLS Playoffs. However, if there is one thing that trumps all other personal accomplishments in Red Bulls history, it is “BWP” scoring his 100th MLS goal.

The Red Bulls won last Wednesday in DC when they beat DC United 1-0. The lone goal was Wright-Phillips’ It took him two minutes to score. It was his first chance to get the 100th goal and he pulled it off.

The best part is, BWP has done it all as a member of the New York Red Bulls. Even though it is impressive he is only the 11th man ever and fastest to score 100 goals, it means so much so much more knowing that all of them have been with New York’s original MLS club.

Therefore, it is only fair to dub BWP as the de-facto Soccer King of New York. No one has as many goals, in a league this big, for a team in this city, ever. He is the only one he has the most and he is not even done yet.

BWP is a staple of athletes in New York too. He might not be as long-tenured other New York legends like Derek Jeter or Eli Manning, but he well into his fifth season with many more to come.

Wright-Phillips might not have been playing as long as his teammate Luis Robles, and he might not be as well known on the global stage as his former teammate Thierry Henry, but he is, by a lot of standards, the best New York Red Bull of all-time.

In all other New York sports, there are multiple players, across multiple different generations who could be considered the King of the city in their respective sport. For soccer, there is really only one you could say is the King and it’s Number 99 on the Red Bulls.

What Bradley Wright-Phillips has done for the Red Bulls is unmatched by anyone on the Red Bulls, NYCFC, or even the New York Cosmos.

His ability to score in almost every match he has played in, consistently be stellar on a good team, and be the face that runs the place is what cements his legacy in New York.

There are no other players like him in the history of soccer in this city.
