New York Giants: Week 5 opponent overview, matchups and prediction
How does the G-Men offense stack up against the Panthers defense?
In 2017, the Panthers defense stepped up in a large way behind Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis. Keuchly and Davis were fantastic last season as per usual and they brought the Panthers defense to a new level.
When the Giants travel to Carolina this year, it will be Thomas Davis’ first game of the season. Davis was suspended for the first four games of the upcoming season due to a PED Violation.
Having Davis back will bolster their defense to a level they had not played at in the previous four games, and it makes the game a lot more difficult for the Giants.
Davis has been one of the better linebackers in the league the past few seasons. In 2017, he had an off year but still went for 52 tackles, and 2.5 sacks in 15 games. Having Davis back makes the Panthers that much more dangerous.
Not only do the Panthers have a great duo of Davis and Kuechly at DB and ILB, but they’ve got a core of Julius Peppers, Dontari Poe, Kawann Short and Mario Addison holding down the line.
The Panthers defense is easily one of the most feared among the league because they are strong on every front.
In 2017 Peppers, Poe, Short, and Addison combined for a crazy 32 sacks with Peppers and Addison getting 11 each. If Nate Solder and the rest of the Giants offensive line isn’t careful it could be a tough game for the Giants.
If the Giants want to compete in Week 5, Eli Manning is gonna have to get rid of the ball quickly. Even with his newly fixed offensive line, the Panthers are a tough matchup for every team.
