The New York GIants have gotten some contracts done recently, but Odell   Beckham Jr.’s contract still isn’t done. It’s time for the Giants to pay OBJ.

New York Giants star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. will report to training camp on time when it opens on Wednesday, despite not having a contract extension.

“He wants to play football, he wants to win,” a source close to Beckham told Kimberly Jones of NFL Network.

While people might have though that Beckham wouldn’t attend training camp if he didn’t have a contract extension, Odell told Ralph Vacchiano of SNY last month that they would be no hold out. Beckham is entering the final year of his rookie deal, that will pay him $8.459 million, but the Giants don’t seem to be in a hurry to get OBJ’s contract done.

“I wouldn’t say a sense of urgency,”  Giants co-owner John Mara told Brian Costello of the New York Post in May. “The contract will get done when it’s supposed to get done. I think that’s the Dave Gettleman line. I’m gonna adopt that I think, all spring, all summer, as long as it takes.”

It is now the end of July and training camp is about to start and OBJ’s contract still isn’t done. The question is why? I don’t know why Odell’s contract isn’t done but the Giants need to get it done as soon as possible because he deserves a contract extension.

More from Empire Writes Back

Beckham made the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons. He had more than 90 catches, 1,300 yards, and ten touchdowns in each of his first three seasons. Last year he had 25 catches for 302 yards and three touchdowns before a broken ankle ended his season after four games.

Another reason that Beckham deserves to be paid besides his performance on the field, is he’s the Giants best receiver. He can be counted on to make a big plays and score when the Giants need it the most. He is the biggest star on the Giants and he can make one-handed catches too.

Over the weekend the Giants signed rookie running back Saquon Barkley to a four-year, $31.2 million rookie contract, making him one of the NFL’s top paid running backs. On Monday veteran linebacker Connor Barwin agreed to a contract with Big Blue.

I don’t understand why the Giants are getting contracts for people  who aren’t OBJ done when they should be getting OBJ’s contract done. Giants, you need to get Beckham’s contract done before anyone else because he deserves it and needs to be paid.
