The Yoenis  Cespedes situation has been just another in a long line of embarrassing situations to occur with the New York Mets.

The New York Mets have had some interesting situations through the years. They are paying Bobby Bonilla for what seems like eternity. They have had years where the disabled list is longer than the active roster.

Fred Wilpon and company have watched teams all over the league pass them by on the talent front. We will never know the level of loss they took at the hands of Bernie Madoff. Aside from a couple of brief runs, the Mets have been embarrassing for a good long time.

Fans have talked about the incompetence of the Wilpons and the organization for years. However, this situation with Yoenis Cespedes takes the cake. This is as embarrassing and incompetent as the Mets have ever been.

It’s no wonder why Mets fans have been calling for Wilpon to sell the franchise for years.

Let’s take a look at this situation and see how this played out.

Cespedes was activated from the DL to face the Yankees, (per Anthony DiComo). He played DH although according to DiComo the Mets initially wanted to wait until he could play defense.

We all thought this was good but this was only the beginning.

His performance on Friday night included a home run and we were all excited to have Cespedes back in the lineup.

But then things turned for the worst. After the game, Cespedes commented that he may need surgery on his heels in the off-season.

The scarier part, and the part that is most embarrassing, is that manager Mickey Callaway didn’t know what Cespedes said:

"“I didn’t get to read any of the stuff he said, or hear it. I’m not quite exactly sure what he said. I just know that he came in pretty sore today.”"

The Mets later said Callaway was aware of the bombshell that Cespedes dropped. He didn’t play on Saturday. He wasn’t ruled out of playing Sunday but raise your hands if you think he will. I didn’t think so. He was sore after one game.

He will be seeing a specialist and getting an MRI. We won’t see Cespedes for a long time.

Let’s unwrap this for a few minutes. First of all we have the extent of Cespedes’ injury. The Mets aren’t going anywhere. If his problems are that serious, why was he even back for Friday night? It makes no sense.

Going on, Callaway says he had no knowledge of what Cespedes said, and the team said otherwise? Either the manager is clueless or someone is pulling the strings, telling him to say that.

Next: Mets get nothing for Familia

Then, after the game, nobody from the Mets organization took the time to explain the Cespedes situation to us. I understand the three general managers were busy selling Jeurys Familia to the A’s for a couple of bats and baseballs. But, one of them could have stepped up.

The embarrassing part is the lack of accountability and they are doing it to you, Mets fans. They believe this is acceptable. Neither Omar Minaya, John Ricco or J.P. Ricciardi could take five minutes and unwrap this thing? Why?

Because the Mets have no idea how to be accountable. For years and years, Fred Wilpon and friends have continued to embarrass themselves and embarrass this organization. They also embarrass this fan base every day.

The Wilpons are pulling the strings and that isn’t good. It would be great if baseball would step in here, but it appears that isn’t going to happen. We’re stuck, Mets fans.
