Cornerbacks

  • Trumaine Johnson: 82

    • The big grab of the free agent market more than earns the 82 rating. His talent might be worthy of an even higher rating, but his recent drop off with his interceptions are likely the culprit keeping the rating at only an 82.
  • Buster Skrine: 80

    • This rating is a little big generous, though he may earn it returning to the slot. The arrival of Johnson combined with Morris Claiborne will allow Skrine to return to his natural position. He gets beaten quite a bit on the outside so I would have given him around a 76.
  • Morris Claiborne: 78

    • Claiborne rated lower than Skrine doesn’t make much sense to me. Claiborne recorded eight passes defended 43 tackles and one interception in 2017. Skrine only knocked down one pass last year. When Claiborne is healthy he is a top cornerback and should be in the low eighties.
  • Darryl Roberts: 76

    • Fair rating. Eight passes defended and 37 tackles for a rotational defensive back are right in line with this 76 rating.
  • Rashard Robinson: 71

    • For a guy to only take part in 20 snaps on defense, it’s hard to imagine a guy who deserves a rating over 65. Based on performance this rating is far too high.
  • Juston Burris: 70

    • Another rotational piece, with 18 tackles and an interception on 336 snaps. 70 is fine for Burris.
  • Jeremy Clark: 66

  • Derrick Jones: 65

    • Clark and Jones are two guys that were drafted late in the 2017 draft. Neither have seen much if any action and the rating is appropriate.
  • Parry Nickerson: 69

    • Nickerson is interesting because he is a player that is expected to push Skrine for his job in the slot. He has been viewed as a third round steal and may see his rating rise as the season goes along. Thank goodness for downloadable updates, right gamers?
